The Art and Allure of Permanent Jewellery

What is permanent jewellery I hear you ask?! It is not in any way connected to piercings or tattoos, it is actually jewellery that has no clasp and instead is welded together to ensure it can stay permanently attached to the body.

Permanent jewellery is, at its essence, a unique piece created for you mainly because the chain is measured to the specific body part you want it to adorn. When creating your permanent jewellery piece, you choose every aspect of it. First of all what it is that you’re having made, the metal colour, the chain style and of course if you would like to add a connector or a charm or two these are all ways that it can be personalised to and for you.

Having a piece of jewellery fitted to your body ensures that the jewellery is as comfortable as it possibly can be! You will never feel comfort like you can with a piece made to fit you perfectly. Most of the time you can even forget you’re wearing it! This is often commented on when having anklets made because it’s often very rare for them to be so comfortable.

Permanent jewellery is designed to last as the name says, it is welded creating an unbreakable bond and the act of having a piece made for you, in front of you, can be highly significant to the wearer. Of course, if the wearer wishes to remove their piece this can be easily done, please see the FAQ’s for more.

Occasions

Some of the many occasions that permanent jewellery can help you commemorate are birthdays, christenings, confirmations, communions, bat mitzvah’s, graduations or the passing of various exams or achievements, weddings of any kind, as a replacement for Mendi, hen do’s, friendships, various group trips, or teams you may be part of, family symbolism such as parent to child, sibling to sibling, grandparent to grandchild, or even cousin, aunt or uncle etc, it is also perfect as an act of self love, a gift from you to you.

Understanding Gold Types:

  • Gold Filled: Comprises a base metal covered in layers of gold. Roughly 5% of its weight is gold – that’s nearly 100 times more than gold plated! This method offers durability, lasting between 10-30 years with proper care.
  • Gold Vermeil: Gold vermeil, different from gold filled, always has sterling silver at its core, with a layer of gold electroplated onto it. Though it contains more gold than gold plated pieces, it’s not optimal for permanent jewelry due to its comparatively thinner gold layer.

In essence, while both gold filled and gold plated jewelry may use similar base metals, gold filled pieces are mechanically coated with sheets of gold, making them a more durable and lasting choice.
